It would be forgivable to mistake this gown for an opulent piece of Victorian glamour with its corset style bodice, its rich colour and a skirt which is similar to the late Victorian styles. The bodice would create for the wearer a beautiful hourglass shape, which would be further enhanced by the boning inside the bodice, the romantic sweetheart neckline and the princess line cut of the bodice (vertical seams help create a streamlines silhouette). The bodice is made from shot taffeta which is burgundy red but has darker undertones when turned in the light. Silver embroidery swirls across the bodice back and front in a style not too different from Art Noveau, with lilac flowers punctuating the silver stems. At the sides of the bodice, is decorative ribbon lacing with tiny brassy coloured eyelets, the main fastening is a zip in the back. Gold braid peeks out from the top and bottom of the bodice’s full circumference. The skirt is a beautiful rich coffee-gold colour made from heavy quality bridal satin. The front hangs in generous folds across the front like with many Victorian styles but the back hangs straight down beautifully, slaying itself out into a rounded train. Both items are fully lined.
