3D Secure is very much like chip & pin. When you shop online you will be redirected to your card issuer where your pin number will be checked for validity.  Let's say that you have signed up for 3D Secure with your card issuer and your card is stolen.The thief decides to use the stolen card by shopping at Deerhobbes. Result? They can't! Why? Because when prompted to input your pin number they simply wont know it!
